Card 1, Begin: Where do you want to go?
A real Conversation Card

Practical support for everyday conversations

Small conversations become easier with something to return to.

SproutLingo gives parents and children a familiar question, useful language, and a simple way to continue.

Reuse the cards, return to a topic, and build confidence over time.

A familiar place to begin

Start with one useful question about a real preference, plan, or experience.

Support for both people

Suggested answers and sentence patterns help parents and children find the next words.

Language worth returning to

Reuse a topic and its language until the conversation begins to feel more natural.

How it works

Choose one conversation. Make it your own.

The planned experience keeps the first step clear while leaving every family free to browse, adapt, repeat, skip, or stop.

01

Choose what fits today

Browse the planned library or start with one clear recommendation about everyday family life.

02

Talk for about 5–10 minutes

Use suggested answers, sentence-building support, Jyutping, English, and caregiver guidance only when helpful.

03

Mark it, repeat it, or move on

A family may simply mark “We practiced.” There is no test or proof, and one meaningful exchange is enough.

Every pathway is welcome. A family can

Built for real families

Meet your family where you are.

Different strengths, routines, responses, and paths are welcome here.

You don’t need to be fully fluent

Traditional Chinese, Jyutping, English, and reusable language support help you begin with what you know.

A few minutes is enough

One genuine question and one understandable response can be a useful conversation.

Listening and answering both count

A child can listen, point, choose, gesture, or contribute as much Cantonese as feels comfortable.

Mixed language is welcome

Families can use Cantonese, English, or both while confidence grows.

Every family can adapt

Skip a card, change an answer, return later, or follow an unexpected direction.

Participation comes first

Conversation and connection matter more than correctness, completion, scores, or screen time.

Conversation first

A conversation to have, not a lesson to complete.

SproutLingo starts the moment, supports the next turn, and then makes room for the people having the conversation.

The family behind SproutLingo

Built from a family need.

SproutLingo began in my own family. I’m a San Francisco-born mom of four and the daughter of immigrants from Guangzhou. My Cantonese became less comfortable over time, and I wanted my children to speak it with their grandparents.

I realized we did not need to become teacher and students. We could learn, relearn, and have more conversations together.

SproutLingo grew from that practical family need into a mission for other heritage families.

A documented language-review standardPublic Conversation Cards follow a documented standard covering natural spoken Cantonese, Traditional Chinese, Jyutping, English meaning, and family usefulness. Final language approval remains a human responsibility.

Why it matters

Keep Cantonese conversations alive.

Cantonese carries humor, memories, family stories, and ways of understanding one another. Using it together keeps the language connected to everyday family life.

Small, repeatable conversations can become a lasting habit.

How will the Conversation Library work?

The planned library will let families choose an independent conversation by everyday situation, category, or approximate duration. Each card is designed to be complete on its own and reusable whenever it fits.

Must we complete all three preview cards?

No. Each card works independently. Begin, Expand, and Reflect also show one optional connected path. Use one card, skip one, return later, or stop whenever the conversation feels complete.

What is included in Free?

The planned free beta includes a complete on-demand library of approximately 32–48 conversations across eight categories. Every card includes essential answer and sentence support, Traditional Chinese, Jyutping, English, basic audio when supported, a follow-up, and caregiver guidance. Basic browsing, duration filters, recent and saved access, history, weekly goals, and gentle participation celebrations are also planned.

How is practice recorded?

Families may choose to mark “We practiced” after a conversation. It is a simple personal record, not a test. No recording, correction, duration check, or proof is required.

What will Premium add?

Premium is planned to expand the library with more topics and pathways, richer answer and vocabulary support, personalization, coaching, richer audio, cultural collections, Sprout Stories, and advanced organization. The complete free product method will remain available without Premium.

How will goals, streaks, and achievements work?

Flexible weekly family goals are planned as the main rhythm. Families may also choose a private, forgiving daily streak. Private achievements and cumulative milestones can recognize participation, listening, returning, category exploration, and family connection. They will never score language ability or punish time away.
